San Fransico Giants Add #24 Memorial Patch for Willie Mays – SportsLogos.Net News

The San Francisco Giants have added a memorial patch to the front of their uniform’s jersey in honour of the great Willie Mays.

The patch shows Mays’ legendary number 24 in orange on a black circle, his name “MAYS” arched above in orange. There’s an additional orange outline around the edge of the black circle. The patch is being worn on the upper left chest, over each player’s heart.

The Giants also announced that they will be wearing the tribute patch on their special commemorative San Francisco Seals uniforms, which they will be wearing tonight — Thursday, June 20th, for the MLB at Rickwood Field game against the St. Louis Cardinals:

Willie Mays, who passed away on Tuesday, is often hailed as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Spanning their relocation from New York to San Francisco in 1958, Mays was the face of the Giants franchise, dazzling fans with his unparalleled athleticism and charismatic presence. His time with the Giants was defined by remarkable achievements, including leading the team to a National League pennant in 1962 and winning two National League MVP awards. His legendary catch in the 1954 World Series remains a quintessential moment in baseball history, so much so that you can simply refer to it as “The Catch.” His influence on the San Francisco Giants is still prominent to this day, as the address of their home stadium is 24 Willie Mays Plaza.
