Google usually holds its annual Pixel launch event in October, but this year things may be very different. The company has just announced a surprise Pixel event for August 13, which is around two months earlier than usual.
Google hasn’t specifically mentioned any devices, but the invite says: “You’re invited to an in-person Made by Google event where we’ll showcase the best of Google AI, Android software and the Pixel portfolio of devices”.
That’s pretty vague and could just mean the company wants to “showcase” the existing, already official devices, but here’s the twist – there’s a keynote at 10 AM on that day. There’s absolutely no point in having a keynote address for devices that are already launched, is there?
If this is about new hardware indeed, then expect the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel Watch 3 to debut – or any combination of these.
An earlier event could be part of a strategy by Google to prevent some leaks, since over the past few years it’s suffered a lot from that, with basically every single aspect of every single device being leaked many weeks in advance. We’ll find out for sure what this is in less than two months, so stay tuned.
