Folding screens have been a thing for a while now, and rollable displays definitely represent the next big thing. These have been showcased by various display panel makers and smartphone brands for years, but so far there hasn’t been any commercial product incorporating such a panel.
That, however, is apparently due to change in early January come CES. According to legendary leaker Evan Blass aka @evleaks, Lenovo will debut the newest-gen ThinkBook Plus at CES, and this one comes with a rollable screen, as you can see in the leaked images below.
You can choose to use it as a ‘normal’ laptop with a screen that seems to have a 3:2 aspect ratio, and no one would be the wiser regarding the cool tech that it’s hiding.
When you want some extra screen real estate, just pull the display up and voila, it’s now bigger! This has to feel like magic when you do it in person for the first few times, and will definitely be a huge wow factor for this laptop.
Unfortunately we don’t yet know any of the display’s specs, and there’s always the question of durability with such first-generation products, but this is going to be a cool one nevertheless. And, dare we speculate, incredibly expensive too – that early adopter tax is probably alive and well.
