The Xiaomi 15 Ultra may arrive sooner than its predecessors, and it has been rumored to pack a significant upgrade compared to the 14 Ultra: a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera.
Today a new report ‘confirms’ this information, as much as any unverified rumor can. The new camera will enable a 10x option in the viewfinder, and this level of magnification will be achieved through a combination of optical zoom and in-sensor zoom.
Xiaomi may or may not market this as “lossless”, and we’re not going to debate the accuracy of the term. We prefer to simply get excited about the quality of the zoomed-in shots that we should be able to get from Xiaomi’s next Ultra.
Xiaomi 14 Ultra
A 200 MP periscope telephoto has been introduced back in May by the vivo X100 Ultra, and it now looks like Xiaomi liked this innovation so much that it’s willing to follow suit.
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra should be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Its main camera will use an upgraded version of the Sony LYT-900 sensor, today’s rumor claims, and this will bring better low-light performance compared to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s.
There will also be a 4K Cinematic video mode, higher-res slow-motion video, and an upgraded selfie camera – a 50 MP shooter, apparently.
