The Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League are paying tribute to local heroes with special edition jerseys this weekend.
The Bruins are celebrating First Responders Appreciation this weekend during their games against the defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears on Friday, October 25, and Sunday, October 27, at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. And, to mark the occasion, they’ll wear specially designed jerseys in both matchups, which were unveiled on the team’s social media channels on Wednesday, October 23.
The front of the white jersey features a special shield crest that includes a retro spoked-P logo in front of multicolored stripes. Each stripe represents a different branch of first responders:
The stars at the top of the shield represents first responders who have died in the line of duty. An American flag appears on the right chest.
The shoulders of the jersey are black with yellow outlines, and a special patch sits on each shoulder with the P-Bruins’ “pooh bear” logo inside a roundel with the text “FOR THOSE WHO SERVE & PROTECT”. The collar is black with a yellow insert at the front. Black and yellow strips run around the waist and sleeves, and the bottom halves of the sleeves are solid black.
Fans attending both Friday’s and Sunday’s games can take in interactive exhibits from local departments and will be able to watch first responders play hockey against each other following each game. Friday will see the North Smithfield Police and Fire Department take on the Attleboro Fire Department, while on Sunday, the Providence Police Department faces off against the Providence Fire Department.
Puck drop at the Amica Mutual Pavilion is at 7:05 p.m. ET on Friday and at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday.
