AHL’s Providence Bruins Sport Ninja Turtle Jerseys for Comic Con Weekend – SportsLogos.Net News

Cowabunga, dudes! The American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins got some Turtle Power behind them when threw it back to a popular ′90s cartoon for a pair of games over the weekend.

The P-Bruins donned special Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed jerseys for their home games against the Utica Comets on Friday, February 14, and against the Bridgeport Islanders on Sunday, February 16. It was all part of Rhode Island Comic Con Weekend,

The jerseys had a green base and Bruins gold striping around the waist and sleeves that mimicked the coloured bands and belts the Ninja Turtles themselves wear. On the front of the jersey, the Bruins’ retro bear logo was coloured green and sported a gold band around his eyes. Above the bear was a “PROVIDENCE BRUINS” wordmark designed to look like the TV show’s logo. Both the bear and the wordmark sat atop a grey manhole cover.

The shoulders of the jersey were gold with a black outline. On each shoulder, the Bruins’ spoked P log sat in a green roundel that read “THE WORLD’S MOST FEARSOME HOCKEY TEAM” and had a turtle shell texture outside.

On the back of the jerseys was a black turtle shell pattern, over which gold numbers with black and white outlines were printed. Player names on the back were green with black and white outlines. Gold numbers appeared on each sleeve overtop of a Ninja Turtle’s face — specifically, Leonardo’s face, because of the blue band around the eyes.

The jerseys were paired with black helmets, pants and gloves. The socks were green with gold and black striping that matched the sleeves.

Game-worn Ninja Turtles jerseys are being auctioned off online through Dash, with bids closing at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 20.

While Rhode Island Comic Con isn’t held until November each year, the P-Bruins celebrate the event and its economic impact to the Providence area each February. Last year, the team wore jerseys honouring the Providence Fighting Reds — who played in the Canadian-American Hockey League from 1926 to 1936 and the American Hockey League from 1936 to 1977 — but reimagined the red rooster on the front as the chicken from “Family Guy,” with whom Peter Griffin has had some epic fistfights throughout the show’s run.
