Sex and the City existed in a perpetual New York City springtime onscreen, while its spinoff series And Just Like That… seemed intent on sticking to a summer release schedule.
But just when it seemed about time for a new slate of episodes, news broke that the show would not return to our screens for Season 3 until sometime in 2025.
If you think a lot could change within the series by then, especially with its cast, you’d be right.
For a series that caught a lot of flak from fans for its casting choices, And Just Like That… retained most of its original character roster in Season 2.
It appeared we would be following all of those character storylines, like it or not, as the series continued into the future.
However, it looks like things have changed.
Actors Sara Ramirez (Che Diaz) and Karen Pittman (Nya Wallace) are confirmed to not return for Season 3, while several recurring guest stars have been promoted to series regulars.
But never fear; the following core cast members will be back for Season 3!
Carrie ended Season 2 with a new apartment, a new cat, and a new long-term (five years!), long-distance (Virginia!) commitment to Aidan.
It’s unclear if Season 3 will include a time jump within the series, but judging from the size of Carrie’s now-adult cat, Shoe, in recent photos of the show shooting in NYC, it seems at least a few months have passed within the world of the series.
Carrie experienced a lot of growth in Season 2. She ended her podcast, sold her beloved brownstone apartment, and questioned the trajectory of her life since choosing Big.
At the end of Season 2, Carrie seemed invested in a relationship with Aidan, but it remains to be seen if she’ll feel the same way in Season 3. At least she has Shoe to snuggle with in the meantime!
Miranda had a busy Season 2 herself. She ended her relationship with Che, started a new job, and made tentative peace with her ex-husband, Steve.
She also met Joy (Dolly Wells), a charming television news producer we’ll get to see again in Season 3. Joy seems like a great potential romantic match for Miranda at this moment in her life.

Miranda weathered a lot of upheaval and emerged with a newfound appreciation for some of the core aspects of her personality she’d pushed aside.
Her new job blends her previous type A career focus in Sex and the City with the calmer, socially conscious student we saw in And Just Like That… Season 1. It looks like Miranda is prepared for her next chapter, and it’s lovely to see.
Charlotte’s eventful character arc, like Miranda’s, brought her full circle to what she was passionate about before marriage and children.
She is once again a “gallerina” selling paintings to celebs and other wealthy art connoisseurs. She’s made peace with the growing independence of her children and seems excited about bringing her current life experience to the art career she loved so much as a young woman.
Her relationship with Harry (Evan Handler) has experienced many ups and downs over the course of their marriage, and Season 2 in particular. Charlotte has made a number of sacrifices for him over the years, so it was good to see her get some support from Harry for her job.
She gracefully faced her struggles with perfectionism and need for control and ended Season 2 on a hopeful note. We’re excited to see what awaits her in Season 3!
Seema is the complicated and refreshingly honest real estate agent who, in Season 2, cemented her membership in the core friend group with a flick of her cigarette.
Seema might have begun the series as a stand-in for the brash and unapologetic Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), but her character has developed into a truly unique powerhouse.

Her no-nonsense character has helped And Just Like That… stand apart from Sex and the City while keeping alive some of that series’ trademark humor and sass.
She returns for Season 3 after a vacation in Greece with Carrie, during which they both sit on the beach and ponder the long-distance relationships they find themselves in.
Will Seema stay with her director boyfriend, Ravi (Armin Amiri)? We’ll have to tune in to find out!
Sophisticated and perfectly put together, documentary film director Lisa Todd Wexley saw parts of her pristine world unravel over the course of Season 2.
Balancing a demanding career with the needs of three children and an ambitious husband threatened to get the best of her, even before an unplanned pregnancy and miscarriage.
Through it all, Lisa’s commitment to both her career and high fashion never wavered, and she ended the season with more honest relationships with her husband, friends, and even her mother-in-law.
We’re excited to see what she does — and wears! — next in Season 3.
Furniture designer and KFC enthusiast Aidan Shaw, one of Carrie’s great loves from the distant past, reentered her life in Season 2.
Fans who loved him in Sex and the City were thrilled to see him again, while those who’d enjoyed his absence up until now had to endure seeing him in tighty-whities.
Aidan and Carrie reestablished their relationship in Season 2 with the caveat that he would disappear to Virginia for FIVE YEARS to be a more present parent for his troubled teenage son. Oh, and that she should wait for him.

While it’s been confirmed that Aidan will return for Season 3, it is not yet known how large a part he will play. All we can do is hope that however many scenes he’s in, he will wear pants in every one of them.
In Season 2, a newly divorced Anthony turned his Hot Fellas bakery and delivery service into a successful business that merited a spot on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Needing a more daytime TV appropriate staff member for that talk show appearance, Anthony enlisted Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi), an Italian poet whose most notable attribute became apparent live on air in the snug Hot Fellas uniform.
The two began a sweet and slow courtship where Giuseppe wore his romantic heart on his sleeve while Anthony remained emotionally closed off and prickly. Their relationship promises to become much more serious in Season 3.
Hopefully being in love won’t blunt Anthony’s famously sharp tongue or stop his priceless one-liners!
He may be Charlotte’s husband and the father of her children, but Harry Goldenblatt has long been a strong character in his own right. His good nature and willingness to learn and change have always been part of his charm.
His devotion to Charlotte has never been in question but Harry has often been guilty of taking his highly organized wife for granted. Season 2 saw that dynamic shift when Charlotte returned to work full-time and Harry accepted that he’d have to provide more logistical support for the family household.

He also dipped a toe into local politics by helping out with the mayoral campaign of Herbert Wexley (Christopher Jackson). The fundraising cocktail hour Harry put together for that was seriously flawless — could Season 3 give us Harry as an event planner?
Harry has been a reliable background character but could definitely carry a more prominent story arc. With Charlotte restarting her career and their kids getting older, it would make sense to see him downshift or drastically change his work life in this upcoming season.
Successful bartender and ex-husband to Miranda, Steve Brady went through a tumultuous Season 2 character arc. It was difficult to watch his anger over their divorce almost completely consume this fan favorite character. Always a great father, we saw him continue to excel in this role even in the middle of his own pain.
Much like Miranda, Steve went through a lot of difficult growth and change in Season 2. His purchase of the hot dogs and clams food stall on the Coney Island boardwalk signified an effort to honor his roots while looking toward the future.
This focus on a new business also seems to have been a good emotional grounding element for Steve.
Son Brady’s frequent presence in the background (and continued ambivalence about college) suggests that Season 3 might show us the father and son working together in this new spot and creating a new family legacy business outside of the now-vintage bar Scout.
An eclectic group of guests and recurring stars will join all the action in Season 3.
O’Donnell has confirmed via Instagram that she will join the series, playing a character named Mary in the Season 3 episode entitled “Outlook Good.”
Fans of the show are already guessing that the comedian might play Miranda’s new romantic interest, but recent shots of the actors filming in New York City don’t seem to shed much light on their characters’ relationship with each other.

It is not yet known if this will be a one-off appearance for O’Donnell or if “Mary” will be a guest character with a longer story arc.
O’Donnell has been a fixture of TV and movies for a long time. She is best known for hosting The Rosie O’Donnell Show and for her roles in the classic films A League of Their Own and Sleepless in Seattle. She also had a small role as a bar owner in the Prime Video reboot series A League of Their Own.
When he’s not busy being mistaken for Tom Hardy, Marshall-Green can be seen in films like Reverse the Curse and the TV show Big Sky.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming actor is also known for playing Ryan Atwood’s incarcerated older brother Trey Atwood on The O.C. back in the day.

It’s not yet known what character he will play in Season 3, but photos from the set of And Just That show him sporting a substantial beard with a very Aidan-esque casual outfit and vibe.
They also show him affectionately holding Carrie’s cute gray cat, Shoe, which is great news if Carrie ever needs a pet sitter when she’s visiting Aidan in Virginia over the next five years.
Award-winning actor Mehcad Brooks was a recurring cast member on the hit TV shows Desperate Housewives, True Blood, and the Law & Order franchise.
Now he’s adding And Just Like That… to that impressive list of credits in Season 3.
The star of TV’s Supergirl will play a new, yet unnamed character in Manhattan’s most fashionable group of friends.
Brooks will continue playing Detective Jalen Shaw on Law & Order and reprise his role as Jax Briggs in the 2025 film sequel Mortal Kombat 2.
Another alum of Desperate Housewives, Jonathan Cake also had recurring roles in the series Stargirl and the series The Affair, both streaming on Max.
Recent on-set photos show Cake seated with Sarah Jessica Parker and a glass of wine at a very date-like two-top with a tablecloth.
The photos seem to hint at his unnamed character being a possible romantic interest for Carrie, who is supposed to be waiting for Aidan (John Corbett) for the next five years.

Cake looks dashing in his character’s hair and wardrobe, and Carrie seems quite taken with him.
But pictures can be deceiving, so we’ll just have to wait until next summer to know for sure.
The former Saturday Night Live star announced her participation in Season 3 via Instagram, where she posted photos after filming a scene with Anthony (Mario Cantone) and Seema (Sarita Choudhury).
It’s not yet known what character Oteri plays in the show or how many episodes she will appear in, although the post makes it sound like she just filmed a single scene.
What new character on the show would be out at a restaurant with both Anthony and Seema?
We don’t know, but they make for an interesting friend trio!
Memorable Season 2 guest stars Sebastiano Pigazzi (Giuseppe) and Dolly Wells (Joy) will become series regulars in Season 3 of And Just Like That.
It seems there’s a chance that Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi) and Anthony’s relationship could deepen this season. After all that Anthony’s been through, he deserves to find some happiness!
The character of Joy (Dolly Wells) was introduced at the tail end of Season 2, but she already looks to be Miranda’s girlfriend in Season 3.
Joy is accomplished, witty, and relaxed, which bodes well for their upcoming relationship.

She even gets to meet Miranda’s son Brady (Niall Cunningham), according to on-set photos of a scene filmed recently in New York City.
Oh! We almost forgot that Carrie’s pet feline, Shoe, has been promoted from kitten to cat this season!
Lotus, the kitty who plays Shoe Bradshaw, was promoted in another way, as well. He now has a Forever Home with Sarah Jessica Parker, who adopted him from Connecticut Humane Society last year.
