The 2024-25 college football season is nearly upon us, with kickoff of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic between Florida State and Georgia Tech is only a little more than 24 hours away.
With that, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of every uniform, logo and field change that has taken place across the country this offseason, which we’ve broken down by conference and will share daily over the next week.
We’ve already covered the ACC and Big Ten, so now we’re moving onto the Big XII as we make our way alphabetically through the Power 4 conferences. We’ll then circle back with the Group of 5, soon-to-be defunct Pac-12 and Independent programs.
Now, let’s take a look at the Big XII, which expanded to 16 teams this year with the addition of former Pac-12 members Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah and defection of Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC…
When the Wildcats updated to Nike’s Vapor F.U.S.E. template last season, the sleeves stripes on their white road and red alternate jerseys were somehow incorrect. That issue has now been fixed and their sleeves properly display a red, white and blue striping pattern like their helmets and pants.
The updated uniforms will occasionally be paired with a new Script “Cats” helmet, which was unveiled in June and matches the logo on the right hip of their pants. It’s the first time since the 1970s that Arizona won’t have some form of a Block “A” on its helmets.
As mentioned, this also marks the Wildcats’ first season in the Big XII, and they have updated their uniforms and the field turf at Arizona Stadium to reflect that change. The same goes for Arizona State, Colorado and Utah.
Speaking of the Sun Devils, they unveiled a new gold alternate jerseys, which feature a maroon “Arizona State” wordmark and perforated numbers outlined in metallic gold. It’s unclear when they’ll be worn, though athletic director Graham Rossini noted it’ll be “early this season.”
The Bears unveiled four new uniforms in May, including green home, white road, gold alternate and anthracite alternate sets. The first three feature a Green Bay Packers-esque striping pattern, while the anthracite jersey displays an oversized paw print on the sleeves, reminiscent of their 2013-18 design.
As part of their 100th season celebration, the Cougars will wear 1996 throwback uniforms against Kansas State on Sept. 21. The all-white uniforms notably feature royal blue numbers with a black drop shadow and two blue stripes outlined in black on the sleeves.
BYU also unveiled a commemorative logo to mark the occasion, which will appear in the end zones at LaVell Edwards Stadium, and their uniform schedule for the entire season.
The Bearcats will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Nippert Stadium with a commemorative logo, which incorporates a photo of the stadium’s namesake, the shape of the building and a “UC” crest marking the location of Nippert’s memorial. It’s unclear at this time if the logo will be worn as a helmet decal or be painted onto the field.
The Buffaloes are set to unveil new uniforms prior to next week’s season opener against North Dakota State, and we got our first glimpse at the design thanks to former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, whose social media network leaked the design.
The uniforms notably feature Boulder’s iconic Flatirons – a rock formation with five jagged peaks that sits to the southwest of Folsom Field – on the sleeve caps. They also carry over Colorado’s current wordmark and number font, though the colors are now flipped.
Although they received a cease-and-desist letter from the NFL and Tennessee Titans, the Cougars will reportedly continue to wear their Houston Oilers-inspired alternate uniforms, though they’ve made some modifications to the striping pattern to avoid potential copyright issues.
“We literally have a story we can show (how) the city uses it,” athletic director Chris Penman told the Houston Chronicle. “This isn’t a reach. This is a layup. We’ve got a very defensible position.”
The Cyclones unveiled four new uniforms with a classic striping pattern this spring, including cardinal home, white road, black alternate and white alternate design. Interestingly, the last two are completely devoid of school colors.
Iowa State is also celebrating its 50th season at Jack Trice Stadium with a commemorative logo, which will likely be painted on natural grass surface this fall.
The Jayhawks recently unveiled new red alternate uniforms that feature a large “Kansas” wordmark across the chest and a stacked “Rock Chalk” wordmark contained within the sleeve stripes, matching their home blue, white road and black alternate uniforms.
The Cowboys will wear a patch on their left shoulder this season in honor of two-time All-American defensive end Leslie O’Neal, who will be inducted into the program’s Ring of Honor during their Sept. 7 matchup with Arkansas.
Oklahoma State players will also wear a QR code on the back of their helmets this season that links to the school’s NIL fund. It is believe to be the first time a college football team will wear QR codes in a regular-season game, though UCF players wore jerseys featuring QR codes during the 2022 spring game that linked to their bios.
The Horned Frogs unveiled simplified uniforms in May that remove the contrasting collar and cuffs and unique, scale-like design around the collar from their previous set. They also reintroduced glossy purple helmets to a rotation that includes glossy white, satin black, purple chrome and silver chrome options.
The Red Raiders moved from Under Armour to adidas this offseason and unveiled new uniforms as a result. They seemingly blend Texas Tech’s designs from the late 1980s, early 1990s and mid-2000s with two stripes on the sleeves and pants and the iconic Double “T” on the helmets, which now have a stripe down the center.
The Utes have not made any changes to their uniforms other than adding the Big XII patch on the right shoulder. They’ve also updated the turf at Rice-Eccles Stadium to reflect their new conference affiliation.
The Mountaineers unveiled new uniforms in April that pay homage to different eras of the program while maintaining a few modern touches, including the crescent-shaped stripes on the shoulders that are reminiscent of their 2007-12 design and the wordmark on the chest, which was pulled from their 2022-23 “Country Roads” alternate uniforms.
Additionally, West Virginia’s new gold pants feature two navy blue stripes, which were a staple under Hall of Fame head coach Don Nehlen from 1980-93, while its new white pants revive a navy blue-gold-navy blue striping pattern from the 1960s, 1970s and early 2000s.
The Mountaineers also revealed an all-black alternate uniform that was inspired by the state’s rich coal mining history. They include reflective silver numbers that embody reflectors used for safety and navigation in a mine, while the helmet stripe, collar, sleeve caps and pants stripe feature a coal-like pattern that was sourced from a local mine.
Lastly, West Virginia announced all 18 varsity sports will wear a uniform patch or helmet decal in honor of NBA great Jerry West, who passed away in June at the age of 86.
