Portland Sea Dogs to play as Maine Candlepins – SportsLogos.Net News

The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in Eastern League, will play one game in 2025 as the Maine Candlepins, a tribute to a unique style of bowling with ties to the region.

The alternate brand celebrates a form of bowling that has been popular in New England and Canada’s Maritime provinces since the late 1800s. Candlepin bowling is distinct from ten-pin bowling, the more common variety of the sport throughout most of the United States, in that the pins are small and thin (like candles), and the ball is smaller and does not contain finger holes. The pins are made by Garland Manufacturing Company in Saco, Maine, just 15 miles from Portland.

The Sea Dogs unveiled a series of Candlepins logos, including a cap logo featuring the pins themselves, a pair of bowling shoes, and a bubbly wordmark with a bowling pin standing in for the letter I. The team will wear a jersey meant to resemble a bowling shirt.

The hat logo was created in house by Sea Dogs staff member Kevyn Tibbott while the jersey was created by Ted Seavey of Seaboard Studios in Scarborough, Maine.

The Maine Candlepins will take the field Saturday, August 2.
