As clubs from Europe’s top domestic soccer league continue their preseason tours, many of them need to switch up their looks, which has lead to a bevy of new away kits being launched over the past few days.
Here’s a detailed look at the new kits, including six new away shirts from Premier League clubs alone:
Perennial Premier League contenders Liverpool FC launched their new away kit for 2024-25, made by Nike, on Friday, August 2, ahead of their preseason friendly against Manchester United the next day in Columbia, South Carolina. The club calls it a “modern revision of the green colourway favoured by the Reds for wearing away from home” as the shirt features a dark green (almost black) and anthracite base with teal and white accents on the side panels and sleeve cuffs. The club crest and sponsor logos are white.
Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion refreshes a decade-old look with their new away kit for 2024-25, also made by Nike. The “university gold” kit harkens back to Brighton’s away shirt from 2013-14, only this time with darker, broader blue vertical pinstripes on the front. The sleeve cuffs and inserts at the collarbones are also navy blue, while the side panels and Nike logo on the chest are white. The back has a solid gold panel for names and numbers.
Fellow Premier League side Fulham hopes to evoke “memories of famous away Fulham strips” with their 2024-25 away kit, made by Adidas. The shirt features black and red vertical stripes on the front, set off by solid black raglan sleeves. The back half of the V-neck collar is white while the front half is red. Tapered inserts at the shoulders are red, and the back has a solid black panel for names and numbers.
Elsewhere in England, AFC Bournemouth is throwing it back to the ’90s for their 2024-25 away kit, made by Umbro. The kit’s white base is covered in a distorted pattern of teal and purple geometric shapes. The back half of the V-neck collar is purple while the front half is white, and the sleeves are purple as well. The club crest is monochrome purple while the front-of-shirt sponsor’s logo is off-white with a purple outline.
Another Premier League side, Nottingham Forest, launched their new away kit for 2024-25, made by Adidas, on Friday, August 2, and wore them that same day in a preseason friendly against Spanish La Liga side Villarreal CF. The club teamed up with local rapper and lifelong Forest fan Bru-C to design the kit, which takes inspiration from his track “Ten Toes.” The kit is predominantly dark grey, with a pattern of staggered lighter grey lines down the front and hot pink accents on the shoulders and sides.
Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are going very literal with their away kit for 2024-25, made by SUDU. The black shirt features an amber line drawing of a snarling wolf in profile across the front, on top of an embossed pattern based on the wolf’s head in the club crest. The crew neck collar has amber trim, and — like it does with Wolves’ home kit — the crest sits in the middle of the chest.
Having survived their first season in France’s Ligue 1 since 2008 last year, Le Havre AC are back with stylish home and away kits for 2024-25 made by Joma. The home kit retains the club’s traditional half light blue, half navy blue look, with a tonal pattern all over that’s meant to resemble the skin of a salamander, an animal found on the city of Le Havre’s coat of arms and the team’s crest. The away kit, meanwhile, is mostly white with a blue sash running diagonally from the top right to bottom left. The club says the away kit is a “tribute to the sea, omnipresent in Le Havre” (translated to English by Google).
Elsewhere in France, Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims and Puma have taken inspiration from the Hôtel de Ville in their home city for their 2024-25 away kit. “With shades of blue, echoing the darkness of the Reims night and golden details that bring a touch of elegance and harmony, this design recalls the late hours of the sacred city which comes to light up to reveal from another angle all the beauty of the monuments, its architecture and above all, the people of Reims,” the club says on its website (translated to English by Google). The sleeves and the back of the kit are solid dark blue.
French Ligue 1 side Montpellier HSC continue their 50th anniversary celebrations with their 2024-25 away kit, made by Nike. The base of the kit is white, but appears to have a light orange tinge from afar thanks to the 617 names printed on the front. These are the names of all the players who have played for Montpellier since its inception in 1974. The club’s 50th anniversary crest appears on the left chest in monochrome orange, and sponsor logos on the chest and sleeve are also orange.
Meanwhile in Italy, Serie A side AS Roma draws inspiration from the artistic scene of the Testaccio quarter of Rome for their 2024-25 away kit, made by Adidas. The kit has a white base with an abstract orange design on the front “reminiscent of the spray cans used to create murals” in the district. The Adidas shoulder stripes and trim on the collar are also light orange, while the club’s lupetto crest appears in the same color inside a maroon circle.
While their home kit represents one side of their crest with a black cross on a white background, Serie A side Parma’s away kit for 2024-25 represents the other half with blue and yellow horizontal stripes across the front. The stripes have a thinner navy blue stripe between them, and the collar, sleeve cuffs and side panels are also navy blue. The yellow stripes feature an outline of the monumental gate outside Parma’s home ground, the Ennio Tardini Stadium, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig unveiled their new third kit for 2024-25, made by Puma, on Wednesday, July 31, while on their preseason tour of the United States. The kit is predominantly navy blue, with light blue and grey streaks running diagonally across the front of the shirt and the sleeves. Both the sleeve cuffs and the V-neck collar are navy with light blue trim, and a light blue insert appears at the front of the collar. The back of the kit is solid navy blue to allow for name and number legibility.
V is for the vibes from their most ardent supporters on Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart’s away kit for 2024-25, made by Joma. The pattern of gradually darkening Vs on the front of the red shirt “pick up on the VfB look of the 80s and 90s and thus create a very special retro vibe made in Bad Cannstatt,” according to the club’s website. The collar and sleeve cuffs are white, and a white band runs across the chest, mirroring the red band across the chest of Stuttgart’s home shirt. The same V pattern is found on VfB’s goalkeeper kits, which come in purple and teal.
Spanish La Liga side Girona FC plays on regional pride for their 2024-25 away kit, made by Puma. The navy blue kit features a sash of red and yellow stripes running diagonally across the front that mimics the stripes of the senyera, the flag of Catalonia, the autonomous community within Spain where Girona is located. “With this symbol we want to express our commitment to the territory and to the values we share: teamwork, solidarity, respect, non-conformity, integration… Catalanness but also globality,” the club says on its website. The back half of the V-neck collar and the sleeve cuffs are red, while the front half of the collar is navy blue.
