After a few months without a kit supplier, the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (Uruguayan Football Association) has signed a deal with Nike to manufacture kits for their national teams.

The AUF announced the deal on their website and social media channels earlier this week. It will take effect in time for Uruguay to wear Nike kits in the 2024 Copa América, taking place this June and July in the United States.

The Uruguayan Football Association announces that the Nike company was selected to supply the clothing that the Uruguayan team will wear in the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024.

The decision was adopted by the executive committee of the AUF, after carrying out an open call process initiated on March 15.

Uruguay’s national teams were previously outfitted by Puma, but that contract ran out at the end of 2023. The AUF produced kits in-house in the months between contracts.

The first in-house set unveiled by the AUF came in January and celebrated Uruguay’s gold medal in football at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The AUF then released another set of match jerseys for international games played in March. Both featured tonal pinstripes on the front and back.

Some national team coaches and players, especially at youth levels, were still photographed wearing Puma training gear well into 2024, though.

The Uruguayan men’s national team also Olympic gold in 1928 in Amsterdam. They won the inaugural FIFA World Cup in their home country in 1930, as well as the 1950 championship in Brazil. And they’ve won the Copa América 15 times.

Uruguay’s women’s national team has fewer trophies in its cabinet. Its best international showing was a third-place finish in the 2006 Copa América Femenina.
